Found A Job

Ended up getting a job with UPS in Redmond, a little distance from here in Bothell, but is close enough to make. Start on Monday evening on the third shift. Haven't worked there in a couple years at least.

Monday will be a class to reorient myself with doing the job I'm going to be doing with UPS. Was supposed to a phone interview with one company who never called and who also changed the interview times twice. Not exactly a company I can trust. UPS has shown it's one I can trust.

Light

Yesterday towards evening, had a hopeful email exchange with a temp recruiter. Waiting to be able to put minutes on my phone, email was my only way of having communication with him. Hoping that there is something he can match me up with. Applied to a couple other jobs this week that I am waiting to hear back from. Two that are pretty close like the third one offered by the temp agent.

Enjoying the weather here in Seattle otherwise. Low to mid 60's and a slight breeze with clear sky in the area I am in. Definitely like it here better than in Indiana. Hoping tomorrow will bring similiar weather if not better.

As well, I have been waiting to hear back about a request I had made about an ancestor I was looking into about being Cherokee. Having a little hard time remembering when I sent the request, but I know it's been about a month or two. Going to send a request again and see what they find. Hoping that I didn't miss the reply email.

Hoping

Started looking on the Seattle Times for jobs hoping that I may be able to get something off of there. Created a profile for it started looking around. Applying was the trickier part. Thought I had the username and password but what I thought I put in for them wasn't working. Maybe it just needs time to generate.

There was a job I was wanting to apply to thinking that the resume I had uploaded would be sufficient but I am thinking that I may have to find the way that works.

Still wondering about what the timeline will be to find a job soon. LinkedIn to Careerbuilder having jobs that I know I'd be good at and to improve in are proving to be less than what I was thinking. Amazon has some books it looks like that would help with finding and maintaining a job. At this point, I can only look at landing a job. One that would allow for public transportation.

Seattle is a beautiful place to live. Would like to see the city and visit historic sites. Learning about the place would be wonderful to finding out how it works. Growing up here would have been a grateful experience.

So Many Yet So Few

It is going on three weeks since I moved here to Seattle and finding a job is a little harder than I thought it would be. The jobs available are over or under my qualifications. Choosing a job to get me started seems like it should be easier. Last week I filed for unemployment last week from my previous state of Indiana. Initially, I decided to move to Seattle to find a job I'm qualified for with hopes of making a career out of it. Aware that it wasn't exactly going to be easy, I laid out a plan for myself to look for one that I can hopefully get within a week or two of moving here so that I wouldn't be waiting too long to get hired.

Having searched through Careerbuilder, Indeed, Craigslist, Linkedin, and University of Washington Bothell, I am finding myself still waiting to hear back from where I applied to. At this point in time, I only have public transportation and walking as a form of getting to any job(s) that I potentially get hired for. From what I have gathered, this somehow doesn't qualify as a reliable means of transportation which doesn't make sense to me. The reasoning would somehow seem invalid and would seem to me to leave out those who are more than capable of doing the job but lack the ability of a personal vehicle.

Places like Japan would only require ability as a qualification and not require a personal vehicle. I am left to find jobs within a 10 mile radius at best while hoping that I can find something soon. Gratefully, I have family that is allowing me to stay with them while I am accomplishing the function of searching and acquiring. I don't wish to be a burden on anyone so I help clean and other small jobs around the house to help ease my stay here.

What's your experience if you are or were in the same position?
